Following the comments from Tom Cat and ls650v - the capacities given came from the Clymer manual and agree with the Suzuki Owners Manual that came with the bike. These capacities are correct for Savages up to '93 (the year of my bike). I have no idea about newer bikes. The engines on the later models look identical so I can't imagine why they hold less oil.
The best advice is to fill with oil until it reaches the level on the sightglass.
